Ensuring Long Thanh Airport Is Fully Ready for Synchronized Operations by June 2026
During the working session, Minister of Construction Trần Hồng Minh stated that the Long Thanh International Airport project is designed with a capacity of 100 million passengers per year and 5 million tons of cargo per year, covering a land area of 5,000 hectares and divided into three investment phases.
In Phase 1, the project will construct two northern runways and one passenger terminal, along with synchronized auxiliary facilities, providing a capacity of 25 million passengers per year and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year.
Under the directives of the Government and the Prime Minister, Phase 1 construction is expected to be essentially completed by December 19, 2025, followed by technical test flights and commencement of commercial operations in the first half of 2026.
Regarding implementation progress, Phase 1 of the Long Thanh International Airport construction project consists of four component projects.
Specifically, Component Project 1 includes six state management office buildings (headquarters of the Southern Airports Authority; Customs; Immigration Department; Local Police; Animal Quarantine; and Plant Quarantine). These facilities have now basically completed construction and are undergoing final finishing work, ensuring completion before December 19, 2025.
Component Project 2 encompasses flight operation facilities implemented by the investor, the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation. As of now, construction has been completed, with finishing work and equipment installation underway. All items required for technical test flights are expected to be ready by December 19, 2025.

Component Project 3 consists of essential facilities with 15 bidding packages, of which 3 out of 15 have been completed, while 12 out of 15 are under construction.
Under the directives of the Government and the Prime Minister, the construction work for the project is expected to be fundamentally completed by December 19, 2025, ensuring readiness for technical test flights on the same day. Remaining items will continue to be completed, tested, and put into commercial operation in the first half of 2026.
Component Project 4 includes other facilities. Priority projects serving Phase 1 operations are being actively implemented by investors, striving to basically complete construction by December 19, 2025, and ensure synchronized operational readiness by June 2026.
Other outstanding items are being carried out by Vietnam Airlines, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), and the Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee (the governing authority) according to plan.
The Government is directing the Ministry of Construction, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam, and relevant ministries and agencies to study and prepare for Phase 2 of the Long Thanh International Airport project, with groundbreaking for the third runway (under Phase 2) planned for December 19, 2025.
